There is generally no such thing as a typical day in the life of a Project Manager, although the workload is generally consistent, and there are certain daily or weekly routine admin tasks that need to get done.
Meetings are an important item for Project Managers as they are used to gather and disseminate information throughout all stages of a project. For example, in IT software development projects where Agile Project Management approaches are used, the Daily Stand-up meeting is a key feature. On bigger projects there will be different levels of meetings, from daily meetings with technical team members, to Weekly Status Meetings with clients, to Monthly Steering Committee meetings with lots of different stakeholders.
Document preparation is also an important aspect of a Project Managers day. Aside from completing the documents themselves, there is the process of information gathering through interactions with team members and other stakeholders.
At the beginning of projects, there is usually lots to do in terms of defining the scope of the project. This often means Requirements Gathering workshops where key information about the project requirements and possible solutions are discussed and important decisions are made. The Project Manager will usually chair these sessions.
Finally, a Project Manager spends a lot of time communicating with all sorts of different people, including customers, vendors, technical teams, managers, etc
